Infant Photography

This does not include printing

Thank you for your inquiry!

My infant photography sessions for infants up to 14 days old are $350 for up to 3 hours, plus an additional $50 per hour for twins, and an additional flat rate of $50 to include older siblings or parents.  After day 14, it’s almost impossible to get baby into that deep sleep that came so easily in their first few days…so it’s unlikely that we’ll be able to get them into any of the more bendy newborn poses.

Please inquire about pricing for 3 or more infants.

You will receive 15 of your favorite digital images complete with photo finishing. (Photo finishing means smoothing skin, hair and/or body using Photoshop).

Infant sessions can take 2 to 3 hours depending on the cooperation of your little one.  I require a 40% retainer deposit (based on a 2 hour session) to book, your remaining, standing balance the day of the shoot, and any additional fees in 10-14 days before your images are delivered.  Unfortunately I cannot guarantee your booking or my availability without a retainer deposit.

The session will include:

  • 1 photographer on location
  • 15 finished digital images
  • 1 composite photo
  • Personal webpage for sharing with friends and family
  • Downloadable images to be delivered on www.ionnaphotography.com

When to Schedule Your Session

Newborn sessions MUST be scheduled within the first 14 days of life. However, the BEST time is between 3-7 days after their arrival.  Babies just tend to do a lot better with the session within their first 7 days.  Around day 8 they discover moving and stretching, which can make for a difficult session if you want those cute, curly poses.  After day 14, it’s almost impossible to get baby into that deep sleep that came so easily in their first few days…so it’s unlikely that we’ll be able to get them into any of the more bendy newborn poses.  Also keep in mind that newborn acne (and sometimes colic) is likely to flare up after day 14. While we can easily edit problem areas, we prefer to do as little retouching as possible to baby’s skin.

What Time is Best?

Anytime during daylight hours (mid-morning to late-afternoon), when window lighting is as its best, and during a time you know they’ll be in a deep sleep.  I’ll be scrunching them into those sweet newborn positions, so we want to make sure they’re sleepy enough to allow me to handle them.

Where Will the Session Take Place?

My newborn sessions take place in your home. If the weather is warm enough and you’re comfortable with the idea, we can take the session outdoors. Don’t worry if you think you house is a mess, you just had a BABY! I may also be moving furniture around if possible.

Tips and Recommendations for a Comfortable Session

Lighting:  I bring my own lighting but natural light is always the best.  I ask that you open all of the blinds and curtains in your home prior to my arrival. This enables me to find the best source of natural light in your home.  When I arrive, I’ll walk through your home looking for the best lighting and that is where I’ll set up my mini studio.  I usually set up wherever there is a large window.

Make Sure It Is WARM!  I recommend that you keep your home a bit warmer than normal during the session, around 80 or so.  Newborns are used to being all bundled up and warm.  They will be naked during the session and they don’t like it.  A warm home will help the session tremendously.  We’re going to be hot, but baby will be warm and that is what matters.  During cooler weather please make sure the heat is turned up about 15 to 20 minutes before the session, or during warmer weather, turn the air off or down.  I may bring a space heater as well.

Before Your Session

  • Please have extra pillows ready.
  • Loosen your baby’s diaper and clothing at least 30 minutes before the session. This gives those little imprint marks time to disappear.
  • Most of the images I’ll be taking will work best if the baby is in a deep sleep. To encourage this, we recommend that you do whatever it takes to make sure baby is nice and exhausted. Keeping your little one awake on top of your own sleep deprivation might feel like torture, but we think it will be worth it in the end!
  • A well fed baby is a happy baby! Please feed and burp baby right before our session to ensure a happy, sleepy (“milk drunk”) baby. We’ll also be more than happy to take as many breaks as needed to help him/her re-fuel. It’s tough work being a model!  About 50% of your session will involve feeding, diaper changes, and cuddling to get baby comfortable.
  • Allow up to 2 hours for your newborn session.  It all depends on baby’s mood and willingness to sleep.  I ask that you remain calm and patient as your baby will pick up on any frustration in the room. If we can’t get a sleeper, wide-eyed newborn photos are beautiful too.
  • If parents are planning to be in the shoot, please wear solids and simple clothing.  Skin to skin portraits are great, so you may even consider wearing a strapless tank or a knit cami or top (for mom) and short sleeved knits or a plain T with no logos (for dad) are best.  Nothing too busy.  Wrinkles DO show up in photos, so please make sure all clothing is ironed or steamed. The retouching is extensive and will incur an extra fee.
  • If you have any family heirlooms, toys, hats, props, etc. that you would like me to use in your session, please gather them before we arrive. We may not get the chance to use ALL of the items, but we’ll look through them with you to determine what will work best.
  • Daddy’s! Your hands, your feet, and your body, will play a major role in this session, so it’s important that you tend to them!  Even if you aren’t planning on participating much in the session, you’ll still be handling your baby a bit, so it’s a good idea to touch up on your grooming.  Trim and tidy your nails and apply lotion to any dry skin. Babies, especially newborns, are best in their bare skin. They also look adorable in hats and blankets. Bring your own, and we usually have a few to choose from. Diaper covers are also great!

During Your Session

  • Please do whatever you can to keep the noise level to a minimum during our session. If you have other children that might make noise, please keep them in an area away from the session.  If you have children that you would like to be included in some photos, please bring them in at the end of the session. Only those being photographed should be present to help maintain a calm environment.
  • It is ok and expected if your baby decides potty or poop.  It would definitely be helpful if you had a stack of old towels, extra wipes and blankets available for when things get messy. If you would like images in a diaper, it’s a good idea to have a cloth diaper, diaper cover in a solid color, bloomers, or something to put over the diaper. Diapers on their own tend to look a little messy and distracting in photos, but throwing a cover over it cleans things up.
